Michelle is originally from the great state of Ohio and continues to be a huge Buckeye football fan! She married her high school sweetheart who joined the Army, which led them to Fort Bragg nearly 30 years ago!
Michelle continued to further her education and graduated with honors from Methodist University with a degree in Elementary Education. She began teaching and enjoyed working with many wonderful students over the course of her career.
Michelle continued to further her education with graduate studies in instructional leadership. This allowed her to mentor and help develop beginning teachers as well as make important decisions to benefit her school and program. Michelle also obtained her certification to teach and guide the world of the Gifted and Talented. She was even a finalist for Cumberland County Schools Teacher of the Year in 2015! After 25 years in the world of education, Michelle retired from the Public Schools of North Carolina.
Throughout her career as an educator, Michelle has had a gift for decorating and designing. It all started with designing ideas for her own classroom as well as living in military housing. She brought plain and simple spaces to life with creative ways to make 4 plain walls warm and inviting. Michelle began helping friends decorate their own spaces which sparked her interest further in interior design.
After retiring from teaching, a wonderful opportunity presented itself with Mabus Farm and General Contracting. Michelle and her husband built a custom farmhouse with MFGC on 50 acres. Michelle loved the whole process while building her own home, she became passionate about helping others navigate the design process. She has a great eye for detail and brings different elements together to create a cohesive look and feel for clients. It brings Michelle so much joy to assist clients in bringing their new house a feeling of home.
Michelle and her husband, who is retired from the Army, have turned their 50 acres into a small farm where their horses, heritage cattle, chickens, and goats happily live with them. They have successfully raised 3 children, all living within an hour of the farm. They are working in career fields that bring them fulfillment. In addition, Michelle and Patrick are enjoying being grandparents to 3 amazing humans!
In her spare time, Michelle enjoys riding her horses, gardening, reading, being outside exploring nature, and spending time with her family and friends.
